In a nutshell, its a software that lets you organize and launch Minecraft in all the ways that you play it. So you can setup an Instance of Minecraft, based on the server you're playing on.
For example: You can setup an instance with any profile name you want, then set it up to launch Minecraft using version 1.7.10 and then add the mods and config files that matches the server you want to connect to. And since each instance is separate, you can launch modded and vanilla Minecraft from this one software.
(screenshot of what my MultiMC screen looks like).
This way I can just open MultiMC and then double click on the Instance of Minecraft that I want to play. Each can be customized to play any version of Minecraft available, along with mods added to each separate instance, since Forge and LiteLoader are both supported and can be installed to an instance.
So to prep you guys for doing modded Minecraft later, setup the software real quick. Only takes a minute to download it (about 13MB) and to install it. Once installed, double-click the desktop icon and you'll get to a screen like the one I posted above, except there won't be any instances. Click on 'create instance'.
Name the instance "FreaksGaming", leave the group as blank, then keep the Vanilla Minecraft button selected and keep the version as "1.8.6".
Click ok and you'll have a new Instance of just plain Vanilla Minecraft, running version 1.8.6. Then from now on, anytime you want to join our Vanilla server, just open up MultiMC and double click the instance. You will have to add the server IP address again, but only for the first time that you run the instance.
Any questions, feel free to ask me in-game or on TeamSpeak. I'll be more than happy to walk you thru.
